University Pathways

ATAR and Alternative Options

At Heathfield High School, we are committed to delivering a robust Senior School Pastoral Care Program, designed to support students through their final years of schooling and their transition into future pathways.

A key focus of this program is preparing students for university entry - whether through the traditional Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or via alternate pathways. Throughout year 12, students are provided with a wide range of opportunities including:

  • Attendance at University Open Days and personalised immersion experiences.
  • On-site university information seminars.
  • 1:1 meetings with university liaisons to discuss course options.
  • Individualised counselling throughout the SATAC (South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre) application process.

ATAR Pathways

The majority of HHS students enter university through traditional ATAR pathways. These include:

  • SACE Stage 2 Subjects: Most students complete a minimum of 90 Stage 2 credits, including a compulsory subject from the Capabilities (AIF).
  • VET (Certificate III or higher): A completed Certificate III can contribute up to 20 credits toward the ATAR, either as a flexible option or a scaled subject.
  • University Extension Program: Some universities offer subjects that count toward both the SACE and the ATAR.

To be eligible for an ATAR, students must meet SACE completion requirements and include at least 60 credits of Tertiary Admissions Subjects (TAS).

Non-ATAR Pathways

Some students complete the SACE without following an ATAR pattern but still pursue university entry through alternative pathways. These include:

  • STAT Test:
  • uniTEST (Flinders University):
    • uniTEST is available to year 12 students and can enhance university entry opportunities. It is offered free of charge at HHS during term 3.
  • TAFE SA to University Pathways:
    • TAFE to Uni programs enable students to begin study at TAFE and transition to university without requiring an ATAR.
  • Foundation Studies:
