Homestays
International students at Heathfield High School are hosted by families within the school and local community. Being a homestay family means inviting an overseas student to become a part of your family and is a wonderful opportunity to share and experience a different culture. For many students and families this relationship can last well beyond the visit to Australia as lifelong friendships are forged.
Homestay families are required to provide accommodation and meals, transport their study tour student to and from the school each day, and provide lunches and snacks during the school week. Weekend activities are provided by the host families. These could include visits to the beach, Central Market, Adelaide Hills, Morialta Conservation Park, Haighs Chocolate factory, family picnics and barbeques, sports, and shopping. Homestays receive a payment for hosting a student whilst they complete their study program.
Families and communities members wishing to become long-term homestays, will need to apply through International Education Services (IES). As part of the process, a member of the Homestay team at IES will conduct a homestay interview with you and will organise. All homestays will also undergo a police check organised by IES.

Homestays for Study Tours
The International Student Program staff at Heathfield High School are responsible for recruiting and accrediting homestays for Study Tours. We are currently recruiting new Homestays for Study Tours from within the school and local community. For 2024, Heathfield High School has accepted two groups from Japan, one from Osaka Prefectural Education Centre High School and another from Ushiku High School.

Process for being a Heathfield High School Accredited Homestay
- Complete our Homestay Profile Form.
- Undergo Working with Children Check Screening and RRHAN-EC training. Every person over the age of 18 living in your household will need to have completed a volunteer Working with Children Check (WWCC). If members of the household do not have a WWCC already, the school will organise these checks on their behalf. One supervising adult in the household will also need to complete RRHAN-EC training. - Undertake a homestay visit with a member of the Heathfield High School International Student Program team. It is a legal requirement that a staff member from our International Program visits your home to check suitability for having a student. More detailed information about the Study Tour will be discussed during the home visit, and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Please note, Homestays already approved by IES are only required to complete Step 1 above and provide copies of their WWCC and RRHAN-EC certificates to dl.0926.info@schools.sa.edu.au.
