Buses
Heathfield High School and the Department for Education manage five school bus routes - Bridgewater, Bridgewater (Anderson Road), Crafers West, Mylor and Scott Creek/Ironbank.
Parent/caregivers must re-apply annually for their student/s to gain access to traveling on a bus.
Approved eligible students can travel on their allocated route for free.

School bus eligibility
Please review the following criteria with regard to school bus eligibility:
- The student is enrolled at Heathfield High School.
- The student resides more than 5km from Heathfield High School (specifically 99 Longwood Road) or a bus route operated by the department.
- The Heathfield High School student resides in the HHS zoned area bounded by Gores Road (and its extension west to Summit Road), over Piccadilly Road to Swamp Road and its extension east to Bowling Green Road, Rangeview Drive, Gum Flat Road, Bridgewater‐Carey Gully Road, the South Eastern Freeway, the Onkaparinga River to Mount Bold Reservoir, the western Adelaide Hills Council boundary, Ackland Hill Road and the eastern boundary of the Hills Face Zone.
- Please be aware that for eligible students to retain a seat on the bus, they are required to travel on average, at least 50% per week. Travel frequency is monitored and you will be advised if your student is travelling less than the required frequency.
- Students seeking to by‐pass their nearest government school to attend another school are not eligible unless approval has been granted by the Education Director.
School bus applications
Provisional (non-eligible) Heathfield High School students
Students who are not ‘eligible’ – that is, who live within 5km of the school or students who live out of zone may also apply with the clear understanding that the application will be approved as a ‘provisional’ application.
Should there be room on any one of the buses, the student may be issued with a ‘provisional’ bus pass (that is, providing there is room on the bus, the student may travel).
Please note that information for ‘provisional’ seating may not be known for a few weeks at the beginning of the school year but also be aware that numbers could take a little longer to settle due to new student drivers, alternate travel arrangements, student absences etc, therefore ‘provisional’ bus travel will not be known at the beginning of term 1.
Provisional bus pass holders will be notified at the end of each term to advise if they are able to keep thier provisional pass for the following term. If applications for bus passes have subsequently been received from eligible students and the bus route becomes full, provisional bus passes will be revoked.
To help with this process, could parents or caregivers of ‘eligible’ senior students who are, or will be driving to school and will no longer need to use the school bus please contact reception. We can then update necessary records and lists and allocate the seat to another student.
Exceptional day bus pass (temporary one day only)
In the exceptional event that it is necessary for a student to travel on one of the school buses, a parental request for permission to travel can be submitted to the school via email – dl.0926.info@schools.sa.edu.au or phone 08 8139 9300. A temporary bus pass for the one day will be made for the student to collect from reception to give to the bus driver.
Travel allowance
Only students who live 5km or more from Heathfield High School or bus route operated by the department - in Piccadilly, Crafers, parts of Summertown and Uraidla – who are zoned to the school, may be entitled to a travel allowance from the Education Department. For all enquiries, please contact us via dl.0926.info@schools.sa.edu.au
Parents who currently receive a travel allowance for their child, please contact the school via email for the necessary annual form.
Primary School Students
- The student is enrolled at their local Primary School.
- The student resides more than 5 km from their local school or bus route operated by the Department.
- Students seeking to by‐pass their nearest government school to another school are not eligible unless approval has been granted by the Education Director.
- Heathfield and Scott Creek Primary students who bypass their nearest school, or who live within 5km of school - and who are currently travelling as provisional travellers - will need to re-apply each year - and will only be issued with a bus pass providing there is room on the bus.
- Parents of students who bypass their nearest school will also need to complete an Application for Students for Travel on School Bus When By-passing Local School and be approved by the Education Director.
