SUBJECT OVERVIEW
All students are required to successfully complete at least one semester of stage 1 or 2 mathematics to meet the SACE numeracy requirement. This subject is designed to be an accessible option for students to meet this requirement. On successful completion of this subject, students will have achieved the SACE numeracy requirement.
This subject is strongly recommended for all students undertaking VET courses in year 11, with the exception of electro-technology. Most students find it very difficult to regularly miss mathematics lessons and still learn course content, so this subject should be considered as the most supportive option.
Stage 1 Essential Mathematics offers students the opportunity to extend their mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem-solving in everyday and workplace contexts. Students apply their mathematics to diverse settings, including everyday calculations, financial management, business appplications, measurement and geometry, and statistcs in social contexts.
In Essential Mathematics there is an emphasis on developing students' computational skills and expanding their ability to apply their mathematical skills in flexible and resourceful way.
This subject in intended for students planning to pursue a career in a range of trades or vocations.
