SUBJECT OVERVIEW
Year 10 English students will develop their understanding of the three interrelated Strands of: Literature, Language and Literacy. The focus is on developing student knowledge, understanding and skills in: reading, writing, viewing, speaking, listening and creating.
Learning in Year 10 English builds on cepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years and will be revisited and strengthened as needed. Students are also taught strategies for further developing grammar, spelling and punctuation. and clarity of ideas.
Students are exposed to a range of texts which they interpret, create, evaluate, discuss and perform. These include media texts, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and dramatic performances and multi model texts, with themes and issues involving levels of abstraction, higher order reasoning and intertextual references.
A specific focus on the development of language features and stylistics devices will extend their thinking and understanding of how and why texts are created for specific purposes.
